Mouse And Rat Prevention In LA

LA, the city of Los Angeles. The city of celebrities, beautiful beaches, and…mice and rats? Unfortunately, living in LA means you have to contend with pests. One of those pests, rodents, can be hard to prevent, but it’s not impossible. And preventing mice and rats is much easier than getting rid of them if you do end up getting an infestation.

Make your home less attractive

A messy home doesn’t necessarily you’ll get a rodent problem; it goes a long way in prevention. While it may seem like a lot of work, if you really want to avoid pests, you will need to do housework daily. You’ll need to wipe down all kitchen surfaces, as well as sweep and mop often. It’s also important that any food spills are cleaned up immediately.

When storing your food, you’ll want to keep all food and beverages in sealed containers and make sure to keep areas where food is stored clean as well.

Don’t forget your pet’s food. If you have pets, you’ll also want to be sure that their food bowls are empty once they’re done eating. Keep pet food stored in metal containers with a tight-sealing lid.

The rest of the house should be kept clutter-free and as clean as possible. Vacuum often and don’t let people eat in their bedrooms.

Check for leaky pipes

Mice and rats need water, and a leaky pipe or faucet is the perfect place to get that water. Look under the sinks inside your home, but also check for leaky pipes outside of your home. If you see any leaks, you’ll want to fix them as soon as possible.

Eliminate all entry points

Getting rid of entry points will also go a long way in preventing rats and mice. Mice and rats will enter your home through small vent holes near your dryer, in ripped window screens, even under doors.

Make regular inspections of your home, looking for holes that can be potential entryways. If you see any, seal them up with caulk or steel wool. Rats can chew through just about everything else.

Of course, there is no absolute way to avoid a mouse and rat invasion, but the above tips will help. If you find yourself with a full-on infestation, why not call a professional pest control company. Rats and mice are notoriously hard to get rid of, but a pest control service has the know-how and the means to get the job done right.
